Choosing a Good Car Seat for Your Toddler

Remember when we were kids and we rode around in the family Buick with no seat restraints whatsoever? Well, no more!! Child safety is a huge issue and car seats are mandatory. So how do you choose a safe car seat for your toddler? Do you need a car seat with a head support for your toddler? If your toddler car seat doesn't have a head support built in should you purchase one?

Many of today's toddler car seats have a head support built right into the unit. These are safety tested and provide all the support your toddler's head should ever need.

If it is important to you to have a toddler car seat with head support, be sure to check on the different models that are manufactured. Some do have this feature built in and others do not.

You can also purchase a separate toddler car seat head support. There are several models to choose from. These separate head supports are made of soft fabric like knit terry. They usually come in more than one color and are often washable. These head supports have generous padding and some fit behind the toddler. Others attach to the car seat straps. These units are supposed to help alleviate "flat head syndrome" as well as provide extra safety for the toddlers head.

There are people who feel it is safer to buy a toddler car seat with the head support built in. The separate units can leave the safety straps too loose and would not be as safe in an accident.
