All-Time Favorite Craft Ideas For Toddlers

Some parents are under the impression that craft projects are only suitable for older, school-age children however, there are many craft ideas for toddlers that are not only safe but educational and most of all, fun.

Below are a few tried and tested winners but if you keep your mind open to the possibilities available to you, you will no doubt be generating your own craft ideas for toddlers.

Craft Ideas for Toddlers 1: Alphabet Books

A favorite of toddlers for generations has been alphabet books. Why not make your own?

Materials: All you need is an old stack of newspapers or magazines, white glue or tape, child-safe scissors and construction paper.

Step 1. Thumb through the newspapers and magazines with your child and help him to find examples of letters of the alphabet. Try to find large size examples from headlines and advertisements.

Step 2. Help him to cut out the letters and either glue or tape them to construction paper. Devote one page to each letter.

Step 3. Now help your toddler to find pictures of objects whose names begin with each letter and then glue or tape them to the corresponding page.

Step 4. You can then save the finished product by stapling the pages together or hole-punching the pages and filing them in a three-ring notebook. Make sure the notebook is designed for kids and the rings are made of kid-safe soft plastic.

Craft Ideas for Toddlers 2: Leaf Outlines in Crayon

Here's a craft idea for your toddlers that will get you outside and closer to nature.

Materials: Gather a few leaves of varying shapes, a box of crayons and construction paper and you're all set.

Step 1. Place the paper on a flat surface.

Step 2. Place the leaves flat on the paper. You can use as few or as many leaves per sheet of paper as you prefer.

Step 3. Hold the leaf in place as your toddler exercises his manual dexterity by tracing the outline of the leaf with a crayon.

Step 4. Remove the leaf and let your toddler complete his leaf picture by coloring it with the crayons of his choice.
