What To Do When Crib Climbing Starts

Crib climbing becomes a common problem for parents with toddlers. Toddlers may start crib climbing as early as 1 year, but it is common in children between the ages of 1 and 3 . Some parent's reaction is immediate panic, but this is not necessary. You must take measures if your child is crib climbing. Most parents opt to move the child to a youth bed.

Depending on a child's age and amount they are crib climbing depends on their safety. You definitely do not want to keep putting a toddler back in the crib if they keep falling from it. They could get seriously hurt or worse yet, killed. It is reported that around 50 deaths occur a year from crib related accidents. There are also thousands of injuries reported a year from crib accidents. Toys, blankets, and bears in a crib can act as stepping-stones for young children to build and climb on. Furniture attached to cribs also serves as dangers for toddlers that crib climb. Their crib should not be near any objects that give them something to pull on to help in their climbing adventure.

There are strict federal safety regulations on all cribs. These rules include things like the amount of space between slats, decorations on cribs, and the crib having non-toxic stain. There are many other regulations that a crib must meet standards on. If you are unsure if your child's crib is safe get a copy of the rules and check it out. Better to be safe than sorry.
