Handmade layettes - a treasured heirloom

As technology advanced the mass production of goods became common place and the demand for handmade items decreased in its wake. Today, however, more and more people are recalling the quality and uniqueness of handmade goods. This included handmade layettes which can become a treasured keepsake to be passed down from one generation to the next.

A handmade layette may not be as hard to find as you may think, thanks in part to the Internet. There are many, many sites now available that offer handmade items for sale including handmade layettes.

A handmade layette will frequently include such items as bibs, "onesies," burping clothes, and receiving blankets, all with similar designs and patterns so that you have matching items for your baby. Handmade layettes can also include hand-crocheted jackets, hoods, and matching booties. There are almost unlimited items that can be included in a layette, those choices limited only by the crafter's imagination and skill.

However, if you are planning to give the layette to a new mom as a gift you might want to create your own. A layette can be assembled by either purchasing, or making matching items, that are both useful and beautiful for the new baby. Your layette could consist of a Christening outfit, or it could be more practical and include items like receiving blankets, sweaters, caps, and booties.

Whatever you decide to include in your layette, or whichever handmade layette you decide to purchase you can be assured that its quality and uniqueness will make it a treasured heirloom for you, your children, and your grandchildren.
