How long does ovulation last
Many women, including myself, do not know exactly what ovulation is or how long ovulation lasts. Ovulation is when a mature egg is released from your ovary and is the most fertile time of the month. It is very important to women who are trying to conceive to know about ovulation.
Ovulation usually occurs 14 days after the beginning of your menstrual cycle. The time period beginning with the day after ovulation and running through the remainder of your menstrual cycle is known as the Leutal Phase. One way to calculate when ovulation will occur is by subtracting your Leutal Phase from the length of your cycle. There are also tests you can buy at the store that tells when you are ovulating. The Internet also has websites that have ovulation calculators. These work by entering how long your cycle usually is and the date of the first day of your last period. The egg that is released during ovulation lives for about 24 hours. This means the window of time that you might get pregnant is about 4 days because sperm lives inside you longer. But the sperm must be contact with the egg during its 24-hour life span.
Most women do not even know when they are ovulating, but some feel mild discomfort during this time. Those that do feel pain usually do not know how long ovulation lasts because the pain is random for a few days. Usually rest, drinking plenty of water, and over the counter pain medicine will ease any discomfort felt.
