Infant Mortality and Third Countries

The Rate of Infant Mortality and Third Countries

Certainly babies in the United States and other developed countries have an increased chance of being born healthy because of the high level of healthcare provided to expectant mother. However, the rate of infant mortality in third countries increases significantly because the standard of
healthcare is not as advanced and many do not see the importance between delivering a healthy baby and checkups during pregnancy. The rate of infant mortality in third countries varies depending on the actual country, but is similar in the underdeveloped nations in the world. There is a direct
correlation between the more underdeveloped the country the higher the rate of infant mortality.

In underdeveloped countries, the main factors in infant mortality include education, healthcare, income and lifestyle. Most of this begins with education, however. The more educated an individual is, the ore likely they are to seek healthcare and to know when there is a problem. Additionally,
studies have shown a direct correlation between education and income. So, the most important thing to reduce infant mortality in third countries is to increase education for women. A full education might not be possible, but what to expect during a pregnancy, what is normal and specific actions that should be avoided are all important things to teach these individuals. There are a significant number of organizations worldwide that seek to educate women in pregnancy and childbirth; however there are millions of people who are uneducated. The most important thing to reduce infant mortality in third world countries is to simply stress the importance of healthcare and healthy living during pregnancy.
