Mature follicle size at ovulation
Follicle Size and Conception
Every month during ovulation women produce follicles that contain eggs. Usually one follicle will be dominant over the others and they will stop producing. A hormone in your brain called FSH, follicle stimulating hormone, produces these follicles. Once a follicle is matured it will send a message to the brain to release the LH hormone, which is the lutenizing hormone. The release of the LH tells the follicle to release the egg. Studies have shown that if the size of the mature follicle at ovulations was below 15 mm, then no pregnancy occurred.
For those women who do not ovulate regularly, there medications that can be taken. These medications often help the chance of a woman conceiving. They produce the hormones that tell the brain when to release an egg, because in some women these hormones are off balanced. Mature follicle size at ovulation is usually between 10 mm and 18 mm. Some medications make sure the mature follicles reach the proper size. They release the hormone at the right times and help the woman's body as if it was natural. Sex must take place at certain times to ensure a better chance of conceiving.
Even with fertility drugs, some women cannot get pregnant. Research does show some medicines increase the chance of conception and many healthy babies have been born this way. Fertility drugs are often a woman's only hope to get pregnant and in the case that it does not happen adoption is always an option to consider.
