Maximize chances of conception
Planning for a Pregnancy
If you and your partner have been trying to conceive, or are thinking about conceiving in the near future, you can maximize chances of conception by following a few simple steps. First, balance your diets and stress levels in order to regulate hormones. By getting enough nutrient-rich foods, eliminating junk foods or drug/alcohol consumption or smoking, and cutting down on the urgency to conceive and other stressors in your lives, you will allow your reproductive organs to perform unhindered. Next, include vitamin, herbal, and trace-mineral supplements, such as Vitamin E, folic acid, zinc, and selenium to your daily intake. Then, plan on having intercourse every couple of days around the time of ovulation, so that ideally you maximize chances of conception at being either right before, during, or just after ovulation. This involves charting your monthly cycle, daily recording your basal temperature, and daily observing your cervical mucous changes. Undergoing routine physicals is also recommended beforehand, to correct any potential problems, or let you know how likely it is that you would be able to conceive.
If after following all of the above for several months without success, it may be time for you to enlist the help from a fertility specialist. If no physical abnormalities are present, the specialist may provide medical assistance through in-vitro fertilization or prescribe a fertility drug, such as clomid, to maximize chances of conception. As they can be pricey, weigh your options carefully before proceeding. While neither route provides definite success, their help has been shown to vastly improve the odds for conception to take place. Through it all, continue to remain optimistic even if it takes a few months. Indeed, sometimes the timing and your bodies' readiness make all the difference.
