Newborns Cry To Communicate

When you think of a newborn's first emotion, the first thing that comes to mind is crying. Newborns cry when they are hungry, wet, sleepy, or when they just wake up. Sometimes they seem to cry no matter what you do.

A newborn baby crying is the only way they know how to communicate at first. They cry when they feel hungry because you respond to it by feeding them. We respond to babies that cry because their diaper is wet by changing them. Sometimes newborns cry simply because they want to be held. All of these actions are our responses to newborns first emotions.

Newborns start to build bonds early on. They need to be held close and shown love. Even though they sleep a majority of the time, when they are awake they need human contact to feel secure. They are taking in all the new sights and sounds and need affection to know they are ok. They also start to form a bond with their parents during this time. Newborns require a lot of time because we must interact with them to help them build their senses. They learn more and more everyday.

Soon babies start to smile and coo as a new form of communication. Until they are old enough for such activities, crying is their only way to explain their emotions. When they start laughing and using "baby talk", that is when it really starts to get fun. Until then we just have to guess which problem they are crying about.
