Parenting Made Easy
Start the Potty training for toddlers

Potty training toddlers

It's that time, a time almost every parent can't wait for and dreads at the same time. It's time to potty train your toddler. However, the word's potty and toddlers doesn't necessarily have to make you cringe. Although, the words potty and toddlers does indeed make some people shudder, potty training does not have to become a battle.

Potty training toddlers does not have to be a challenge or a chore. If done correctly, it can be done simply and without undue stress. The first important consideration in potty training toddlers is to assess whether or not your child is ready for potty training. If the child is not ready, nothing you can do will make them ready. If your child has begun imitating you, undressing themselves and/or shows an interest in either their genitals and/or their defecation, then the chances are good that your child is ready for potty training.

Potty training toddlers need not be a battle of wills. To begin with if you dress your toddler in loose clothing that they can easily remove and if you don't use diapers during the potty training, you will increase your chances of success. Next, make potty time an enjoyable experience, and not a chore. You can do this by keeping books or toys in the bathroom, and allowing your child to play with them only at potty time.

Always reward a success, but don't make an issue out of an accident. Accidents will happen and the best thing you can do when it does, is to say something like, "Oh well, I'm sure you'll get it right next time."

Be consistent both in potty times, usually every two hours, and with rewards. If you let your child know what is expected, they will usually try to live up to those expectations.
