If you're a fan of website graphics, web ring art (icons and desktop images created by site managers that help you search and locate other websites focused on the same topic), you may have noticed an upsurge lately with blinkies. Blinkies, as the name suggests, are blinking (flashing) graphics that come in all shapes, sizes and styles. There are Christian
blinkies, pregnancy blinkies and simple announcement blinkies. Essentially they are small, usually rectangular boxes inside which is a blinking sentence or series of words. Sometimes they even contain an entire quote or phrase for inspiration or humor purposes. The Christian Blinkies might contain a favorite Bible quote or passage, and the pregnancy blinkies can contain pregnancy timeless for expectant moms or simply adorable graphics of newborns, preemies or toddlers. Sometimes they're as simple as a one word "Welcome Mat."

If you don't know how to make your own blinkies, you can take them from someone else's site, but there is a lot of etiquette involved. For example, it is not fair to take someone's blinkie graphic without explicit permission. If they don't mention it on their site, email them and ask first. Also it's not polite (or fair) to simply link back to their blinkie because this takes up their bandwidth space that they are paying their web servers for. When in doubt, check the website's FAQ (which stands for "frequently asked questions") section for information on the availability of the blinkies. Then sit back and enjoy the new addition to your site!
