Pregnancy symptoms in the first week of pregnancy Although most symptoms of pregnancy don't occur until a couple of weeks after conception, some women do experience pregnancy symptoms in the first week of pregnancy. Most common is implantation bleeding. This symptom is light bleeding that occurs as the embryo implants itself on the uterine wall. Sometimes cramping, similar to menstrual cramping also occurs. This usually happens sometime around the eight day of pregnancy. Swollen or tender breasts are also one of the other pregnancy symptoms in the first week of pregnancy. The woman's breast will be tender to the touch, and may be painful if brushed up against. This can occur as early as the first week after conception. In addition, the areola, the area around the nipple may darken and can be a sign of pregnancy symptoms in the first week.
