Pregnancy symptoms in the first week of pregnancy

Although most symptoms of pregnancy don't occur until a couple of weeks after conception, some women do experience pregnancy symptoms in the first week of pregnancy. Most common is implantation bleeding. This symptom is light bleeding that occurs as the embryo implants itself on the uterine wall. Sometimes cramping, similar to menstrual cramping also occurs. This usually happens sometime around the eight day of pregnancy. Swollen or tender breasts are also one of the other pregnancy symptoms in the first week of pregnancy. The woman's breast will be tender to the touch, and may be painful if brushed up against. This can occur as early as the first week after conception. In addition, the areola, the area around the nipple may darken and can be a sign of pregnancy symptoms in the first week.

Morning sickness can also occur in the first week after conception although it is more common in the second through twelfth weeks of pregnancy. Headaches, caused by hormonal changes in the pregnant woman's body are also an early sign of pregnancy, as is fatigue and tiredness. Of course the most well known sign of pregnancy is a missed period. This usually occurs two weeks after conception, but may occur sooner depending upon the woman's fertility cycle. Mood swings may also occur soon after conception. These mood swings are caused by hormonal changes in the body and should balance out as the pregnancy progresses.

If you experience any of these signs of pregnancy you should see a physician as soon as possible to ensure the health of your baby and yourself. Early pregnancy tests are available and reliable. These tests can confirm your pregnancy and allow you to get quality healthcare for you and your baby right away.
