Successful Single Parenting

In the United States there are 11.9 single parents. Twenty million children in the United States under the age of 18 live with one parent. At least 56% of single parent homes have no other adult living in the household. These are some of the facts about single parenting. These facts about single parenting point out that there are many single parents in the United States.

It is not easy to be a single parent. The single parents who are successful have several things in common.

Successful single parenting has a positive outlook on life itself and on the challenges they face every day. Instead of looking at their situation in a negative way successful single parents are able to remain upbeat and confident most of the time.

Another characteristic of a successful single parent is the ability to maintain traditions and relationships. They celebrate holidays and birthdays as well as maintaining suppertime and bedtime rituals. This is important because after a family break-up or death, traditions and rituals are especially needed.

Single parents who succeed take care of themselves. They take the time to meet their own physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Single parents are very busy but they need to remain healthy themselves so they can take care of the rest of the family.

Successful single parents support their children's relationship with the non-custodial parent whenever possible. Although this can be difficult to do, single parents who are successful try really hard to maintain a positive relationship with the other parent. This is a healthy situation for everyone involved.

Single parenting can be successful when you maintain a positive attitude, take care of yourself, celebrate together and allow your children to be supported by the nonresidential parent.
