Vaginal discharge during ovulation
Fertile Vaginal Discharge
Vaginal discharge during ovulation resembles slippery egg-whites, ideal for the purposes of conception. It is during this time that the vaginal walls are generally well-lubricated, sexual intercourse is easiest, and the acidic discharge best assists the egg's path from the ovaries to the fallopian tubes. Immediately after ovulation, the discharge changes in consistency, becoming less viscous and less frequent, with a cloudy or whitish color and snotty-looking appearance, and may even be tinged with blood. This is all normal, and the discharge eventually tapers off as it loses acidity, and altogether ceases right before menstruation.
An excessive amount of vaginal discharge during ovulation is normal, but if at any time it has a foul odor, is greenish, gray, foamy, or curdled, and if you experience pain, unexplained bleeding, or blood clots, you should consult with your doctor on the possibility of having the human papilloma virus, gonorrhea, chlamydia, vaginitis, bacterial vaginosis, or if you feel you might be pregnant. Vaginal secretions can also change with age, stress, birth-control pills, other prescription medications, or your diet.
To prevent sexually transmitted diseases, use condoms during intercourse, remain abstinent during yours or your partner's outbreaks if possible, and take medications for preexisting diseases as prescribed. To avoid infections, keep the vaginal area clean and dry, use water-based lubricants for vaginal dryness or during intercourse, and wear breathable panties, refraining from wearing tight-fitting pants. It is also important to make sure to complete your over-the-counter or prescription yeast medications or antibiotics to discourage reoccurrences.
