What is the promise of proactive parenting

Proactive parenting is a style of parenting wherein the parents take into consideration the feelings, limitations, and abilities of their child when trying to teach the child how to handle those feelings. The key to the promise of proactive parenting is acknowledging that the child has issues or problems, and then addressing those issues and problems through a variety of creative means.

Some of the techniques include role-playing, talking about their feelings, using literature that addresses the specific problem, making sure the child understands the rules and what is expected of them, and providing appropriate outlets for the child's feelings and emotions. In addition, parents should be aware of their child's unique personality, and adjust expectations to fit their child's capabilities. In other words, what works for one child, may not work for another child.

"The Promise of Proactive Parenting: Sea Change," is the title of a book by Lynne Reeves Griffin. The book is as much about training the parent as it is about training the child. Rather than taking a reactive approach to parenting the book teaches the parent a proactive approach.

Proactive parenting will bring peace and harmony to your home. You will learn to stop reacting and start being a parent. You will learn how to recognize your child's unique temperament and adjust your expectations to fit your child's capabilities.

Whether you are a new parent, or a parent struggling to understand your teen-ager, "The Promise of Proactive Parenting: Sea Change," can assist you in becoming the parent you were meant to be.
